Going into a new breastfeeding relationship, many women are excited and focused on the bonding time they will experience with their new baby. However, a few days, weeks, or months in, the whole repetitive experience starts to wear on new moms. They find themselves itching to “do something” with their time. They love their baby and the bonding, but they also tend to resent the constant sitting, never eating a warm meal, and the deep empathy they develop for cows. Here we will explore 5 tips for successful breastfeeding.

Here are a few things you can do while breastfeeding that will help you feel more productive.

Become a list person: It can become very boring and mind-numbing to sit all day and nurse. Binge watching tv will only last so long. Become a list person. Make a grocery list.  Make a list of fun family activities you can do this season. Make a honey-do list for your partner. Make a to-do list for yourself. Make a Holiday Gift list for everyone you usually buy gifts for during the holidays.  Make a list of home projects you would like to work on this year. Plan the menu for a dinner party you are hosting. Make a list of fun date night locations or activities you and your partner can do together. Then, begin to act on these lists!

Order groceries for pick-up or delivery: Order your groceries at your convenience, while your baby is nursing or napping.  Then ask someone who is coming to visit to pick them up on the way, pick them up using the curbside pickup or get them delivered. It may even save you money because you can use the digital coupon feature and sort your grocery search by “on sale” items.  All this can be done while breastfeeding, any time of the day or night.

Invest in Amazon Prime if you haven’t already.  For better or for worse, breastfeeding is a great time for online shopping.  If you have created a list, you can use your breastfeeding time to order items your family needs, or spend the time finding the best price on the Christmas gifts you have decided would suit your friends and family this year. Amazon often offers special deals for Prime customers and you will get free two day shipping.

Pinterest isn’t just a time sucker app.  Use the app to inspire you with fun activities to do with your baby in the coming months. Organize your home projects using Pinterest boards.  It will inspire you to become more organized in your ideas and you may even find time-saving solutions to house projects you were struggling with.  This is also a really helpful app to party planning or even to find simple dinner recipes.

And some days, THROW PRODUCTIVITY TO THE WIND.  Turn on the television or open a new book. Take the opportunity to enjoy some downtime because you are a hardworking and dedicated mother.  Don’t feel one bit guilty about it, because you need some time to relax and simply snuggle that baby while you unwind together.
